Student Council

The first ever student council was established January 2024 in Scoil Mhuire. Here in Scoil Mhuire we value the student’s voice. The aim of the student council is to provide children with greater involvement in the decision making procedures of the school and learn about the democratic process. Two children from each class are elected by secret ballot and retain their positions on the council for the duration of the school year. Junior Infants, Senior Infants and 1st Class are represented by a student from 6th class. Room 7 and Room 8 are represented by a student from Room 8.

The student council will meet several times each term. Meetings are facilitated by a lead teacher with council representatives collecting ideas and suggestions for the agenda from each class ahead of each meeting. Suggestions are then discussed, prioritised and are brought to the attention of the Principal and to staff meetings.

The very first meeting of the student council took place Friday the 26th of January 2024. It was a successful meeting. We look forward to seeing the positive influence the student council will have on School Life in Scoil Mhuire.
