School League Final - Cork defeats Mayo in a thriller

Cork 7 - 6

Mayo 3 - 14

Cork and Mayo played out a very exciting final in the Scoil Mhuire Gaelic Football League today in the Senior School Hall.

Watched by all pupils from 3rd to 6th Class who were seated on the school stage both teams played fast football with a high standard of scoring on display.

Cork led by 10 points at half time but Mayo came roaring back in the second half to come within 3 points of the Cork team. Two late scores from the boot of M. Stokes won the match for Cork. Mayo replied with a point but ran out of time as Cork remained in control to secure the title.

Best for the Cork team was 'Player of the Match' R. Petersons who was outstanding in goals.

Well done to all players involved and a big 'Thank you' to Mr Guinan who refereed the final.

Below are some photos of the final and of the presentation of medals afterwards.

Gold medals for the winners.

Silver medals for the runners up.

Bronze medals for a pupil from each of the other 8 teams who had excelled in the league since September.
