School Arrangements for January 2021

Good morning Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware all schools in the country are now closed for the month of January 2021. Staff will work with the pupils as before but in a different way. School staff will use the app SEESAW to communicate with pupils & families. All pupils were provided with an individual code on a laminated sheet in the Autumn and it is this code pupils will use to submit their work to the teachers.  We will also provide the school textbooks to families and they can be collected tomorrow, Friday January 8th, from the school. These are the collection times:

  • Junior Infants - Second Class: 11am - 12.30pm.
  • Room 7 & 8: 11am - 12.30pm.
  • Third Class - Sixth Class: 12.30pm - 2pm.

Any family who have children in a number of classes will can collect all books at the time they visit the the school. Families will be directed in to the school yard via the double gates between the two buildings ( where the pupils enter every morning ) and out of the yard via the gate at the Senior School Girls' toilets in to the small car park. This will minimise families being in contact with one another. Can I request all parents to wear their masks and keep to all of the guidelines as always to protect themselves and school staff who will be present? Thank you.

Teachers will assign three tasks of work daily to the pupils. There will be a Mathematics task, an English task and one other subject to be covered. I urge all families to include some physical activity each day for the children as this will be of benefit to them. Teachers will communicate with the pupils and provide feedback on the work completed. Their responses to the pupils will generally be provided during the normal school times of 9 am - 3 pm.

As I write to you all the Government have stated their intention of re-opening Special Classes in primary schools and if this situation changes in the meantime I will be in touch with parents of Room 7 & 8.

We look forward to working with all families during this challenging and frightening period for the whole community and will of course do our best for all pupils. I am available on the school phone daily: (046)9021483 or by email: scoilmhuirenavan@gmail.com Please also keep an eye to the school website www.scoilmhuirenavan.ie for further updates.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries/concerns and I will do my best to address them.

Kind regards,

Colm Devlin

School Principal
