Newsletter, March 2022
I hope you enjoyed the mid-term break!! We are well into term 2 now and I just have a few items of news I want to share with you.
1. Covid 19.
The pandemic seems to be entering a new phase now. We have been asked by the government to lift most of the measures we introduced in September 2020. This is good news for our school. I will outline below what this means for our school:
- Children no longer are required to wear masks. They are now optional for both staff and children across the school.
- Pods can now mix. This means we can bring the classes in the school together for events such as assembly, Book week, Seachtain na Gaeilge etc. We can also mix classes for activities.
- Staggered opening and closing times will be phased out. We will contact you regarding this in the coming days. We still ask you to keep your child at home if they have symptoms of Covid 19.
As we are now in the later stages of the Covid 19 pandemic we are asking parents to think about the importance of attendance at school. We know that good attendance is linked to achievement in primary, second-level and third-level education. In Scoil Mhuire we promote attendance with weekly certificates, prizes and whole class awards. We ask that you only leave your child out of school for a valid reason. If you are keeping your child out of school, please send a note to the class teacher explaining the absence or record the reason on the Aladdin Connect app. If a child misses more than 20 days we are legally obliged to send a report to the Educational Welfare Service (TUSLA).
3. Junior Infants 2022.
Any family who has a son/daughter at home for Junior Infants 2022 please call to the school for an application form or alternatively visit our school website www.scoilmhuirenavan.ie and download the form.
4. Swimming Lessons.
The children in 2nd, 3rd and 4th class as well as room 7 and 8 will begin swimming lessons in Aura Swimming Pool from Thursday, 28th April for six weeks up to 2nd June. The children involved will get a note about this in the coming week. The cost will be €30 per child or €5 per week.
5. Cycle Safety.
5th class with begin a cycle safety course for Friday 1st April. This will consist of 5 weekly sessions. All equipment is provided and the cost of this is covered by the school.
6. Book Week.
This week is book week. Thanks to all parents who have participated in our story telling activity in Junior Infants to 1st Class. All classes will dress up as their favourite book character on Thursday to celebrate World Book Day.
7. Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place from Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th March. We will have a ‘green day’ on Wednesday 16th where the children can wear an item of clothing that is green. This is a fundraiser for our school and we are asking for €2 per family.
4th Class will be taking part in the Wellbeing Promotion Programme for Primary schools from 4th March. This will consist of 6 sessions done in class. It promotes positive mental health and wellbeing. We thank the School Completion for funding these sessions.
9. Mixed Sports.
3rd Class will have 6 mixed sports sessions delivered by Meath Sports Partnership from Thursday 3rd March.
10. 6th Class Transitions.
Our 6th class are working with an artist to create a piece of art on Canvas to remember their time in Scoil Mhuire and to celebrate new beginnings as they move onto Secondary School. This work will be displayed in the school when it is completed.
11. Aladdin Connect.
Please download the Aladdin Connect App if you have not already done so. This app enables parents to stay connected and informed about their child's education. We will not be posting out school reports this year so the only way to access them will be through this app. If you have any trouble downloading the app please contact the school.
12. Bus from Johnstown.
The children are dropped to the school for approximately 9.00 am and a pickup at 1.45 pm and 2.45 pm is available. Please contact Albert on 087 393 6488 for further information.
Thank you for your co-operation,
