Newsletter, January 2022

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and a happy new year to you all. The children are settling back into school nicely after their break. Please take note of the following items of information:

1. COVID-19.

Please do not send you child to school if they have symptoms of Covid-19. These include:

Most Common:

  • fever
  • cough
  • fatigue

Less Common:

  • loss of taste or smell
  • nasal congestion
  • sore throat
  • headache
  • nausea or vomiting
  • chills or dizziness

We respectfully ask that all parents wear masks when entering the school grounds.

Public Health has confirmed that schools are to continue with the infection prevention and control measures that have been in place to date which include the use of appropriate hand hygiene, enhanced cleaning, good ventilation practices, mask wearing (for mainstream classes from 3rd to 6th), maximising physical distancing and antigen testing.

Please continue to let us know if your child develops COVID-19.

2. Ventilation.

During the colder months of winter, we will try our best to achieve the appropriate balance between ventilation and comfort levels with the heating being on and opening windows a smaller amount. I would encourage you to ensure that your child is wearing an extra layer under their uniform/tracksuit, to keep them warm on colder days. We are currently looking into buying HEPA filters for the classrooms.

3. Junior Infants 2022.

Any family who has a son/daughter at home for Junior Infants 2022 please call to the school for an application form or alternatively visit our school website and download the form.

4. Barnardos Internet Safety Talks.

On 14th December 3rd to 6th Class completed internet safety workshops. These included information on cyber safety and cyber bullying. If your child has a mobile phone please supervise their activities on social media regularly. Please note that children under 13 years old should not be using Snapchat/Facebook etc.

5. Fire Safety Talks.

Two members of Navan Fire Brigade came into Scoil Mhuire to talk to 3rd and 4th Class on Thursday 9th December to talk about the importance of fire safety.

6. Christmas Activities.

In December children in all classes watched the online performance of the panto ‘Red Riding Hood’ from the Helix. Santa visited all classes with each child receiving a present. Thanks to everyone who contributed generously to our Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 17th December. Almost 200 euro was raised for Scoil Mhuire.

7. Aladdin Connect.

Please download the Aladdin Connect App if you have not already done so. This app enables parents to stay connected and informed about their child's education. If you have any trouble downloading the app please contact the school.

8. Bus from Johnstown.

The children are dropped to the school for approximately 9.00am and a pickup at 1.45pm and 2.45pm is available. Please contact Albert on (087) 3936488 for further information.

9. School Car Park.

Please reverse in to your car parking space as it is safer to see children in front of the car as you begin to drive out. Please be patient when driving out of the school.

10. Change of Phone No/Address.

Please inform the teacher/secretary if you have moved house or changed your phone number recently. It is very important that we have up to date information in the event that your child is sick, has an accident at school or we require to send you a text.

Thank you for your co-operation,

Fiona Hayden

School Principal
